Staff Software Engineer
About the Role
Fazeshift is hiring a Staff Engineer to set the technical direction for the company. This is our most senior individual-contributor role: you'll operate across squads and systems, own the architecture decisions that shape our product for years, and raise the engineering bar for everyone around you. You won't just build features — you'll define what we build, how we build it, and how we keep it reliable as we scale. You'll work closely with founders as a true technical partner.
What You'll Do
Set technical direction across systems — identify the highest-leverage problems and architect solutions that span the full stack
Drive complex, cross-cutting initiatives end-to-end: schema design, migrations, backfills, and safe rollouts across Prisma and MySQL, including the hardest correctness- and uptime-sensitive changes
Establish and evolve engineering standards company-wide — system design reviews, incident response, runbooks, observability, and the practices that keep a high-stakes product reliable
Multiply the team: mentor senior and mid-level engineers, lead architectural reviews, and elevate the quality of work across the org
Partner directly with founders on product strategy, technical trade-offs, and long-range planning — translating ambiguous business goals into technical roadmaps
Make build-vs-buy and platform decisions that balance speed today against maintainability tomorrow
What We're Looking For
8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a substantial track record owning production systems where correctness and uptime are critical (payments, fintech, identity, fraud, infrastructure, or similar high-stakes domains)
Demonstrated impact at the staff level: setting technical direction that influenced multiple teams or an entire product, not just your own squad
Expert TypeScript skills across the full stack, with deep fluency in modern React patterns and Next.js (Pages Router)
Deep experience with relational databases and ORM-based schema management (Prisma or similar), including large-scale migrations and data integrity at scale
Exceptional instincts around API design, system reliability, scalability, and developer experience — and the judgment to know which trade-offs matter
Experience at an early-stage startup, and the ability to thrive amid ambiguity and rapid change
A proven record of mentoring engineers and raising the engineering bar across a team or org
The highest-ownership mindset — you find the problems that matter and drive them to resolution without being asked
Nice to Have
Hands-on experience with Inngest or other event-driven/workflow orchestration tools
Experience scaling a SaaS product from early users through meaningful ARR
Background in fintech, revenue operations, or B2B SaaS
Experience defining engineering org structure, hiring bars, or technical career frameworks
Our Stack
TypeScript · Next.js · tRPC · Prisma · Zod · Inngest · MySQL
What We Offer
Competitive salary ($275K – $345K) and significant equity
Full benefits (medical, dental, vision)
Flexible PTO
Direct impact on product and company direction from day one
